Tucker Pierce of Maine Coast Waldorf won both the Class C Classical and Freestyle races at Black Mtn.  He also helped his team win the Class C Nordic title for the fourth time in a row  We caught up with Tucker and asked him about his goals and all of the success.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?

A :  I prioritized staying healthy over everything else. I cut back on training a little and worked on my strengths but most importantly I made sure I had enough sleep and recovery time.

2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
A : When you're part of such a fun, energetic team, it takes a lot of the pressure off. The parents and coaches are so supportive that the races are actually mostly fun and not as stressful.

3) What is your favorite thing about ski racing?
A : The speed. I love pushing my body to go as hard as it can. To me, the thrill of skiing never gets old.

4) Coming into the season, what were your goals and did you achieve them?
A : I was hoping to lead the team to another state title. The goals of the team as a whole are far more important than those of the individual.

5) You won both the freestyle and classical state titles and your team won: what do you contribute this success to?
A : Primarily the coaches I've work with this year. John Tarling had been a great coach to have both in the wax room and during practice. We, our team, were also lucky to Sam Kapala work with us this year. He has been very involved with my successes this year. A huge thanks to my Maine Winter Sports coaches as well; Emily Cartwright, Seth Hubbard, and Justin Fereshetian thank you all.
