Qualification to be held for the Maine Team at the Sassi Memorial, January 25, 2014.

The cost for the trip will be $325.  This covers lodging, breakfasts, dinners, entries, wax, coaching, and chartered bus ride to and from Vermont.

In the past, we have asked skiers who qualified and planned to attend to bring a check to the Sassi and pay that day for the event in March.  This year, to avoid the long line, we have created an online registration at www.skireg.com under the heading Maine J2 Team.  You can pay online and do not need to bring a check to sign up on Saturday. This online registration opens on Saturday and closes on Wednesday the 29th of January at 5 PM.  Click on Read more for more important info.

If you plan to attend the J2 Festival, please pick up an information sheet from one of the coaches after the J2 team has been announced to get a password to sign up at skireg.com (it is a closed registration so that only those who have qualified can sign up).  Please let the coaches and alternates know if you plan to attend, and make sure you do this if you are an alternate, too (alternates will not be charged until we know they are going, but we need their information and they need to sign up at skireg.com, too).

You will also need to go to www.NENSA.net  to buy a NENSA license if you are not a NENSA member.  The J2 Festival is held by NENSA and you must be a member to compete.  This yearly license is not part of the J2 cost.  Please do this first, so that you can use your new NENSA number on the skireg.com sign-up.

Maine Nordic Team warm-up jackets are available to purchase for $100.  These are optional, and the purchase is additional to the cost of the trip.  You may purchase one when you sign up online, as well as choose your size.

We will have several pick up points for the bus trip to VT.  Please meet us at the closest pick up to your house.  I will have more detailed information about these pick up spots the week before we go.  We plan to be in VT by 12 PM on Friday afternoon.  The first race is at 3 PM.

The team is staying in South Burlington, at the Best Western Windjammer Inn and Conference Center, 1076 Williston Rd, South Burlington, VT 05403phone:(802) 863-1125.  We will eat nearby Friday evening.

The hotel provides breakfast, and we will eat at the banquet on Saturday evening.

I ask for help from parents for lunches and extra snacks during the event.  Please contact me if you can help out.  It makes a huge difference in performance if athletes can have warm food and drink after their events, and if there is enough lunch and snack food available on Saturday and Sunday.  Maine Team parents are some of the best I've ever worked with when it comes to setting up a tailgate area for food at events.

Athletes, if you know there are specific foods you need for breakfast or as extra snacks, please bring these with you.  Being well-fueled is an important part of having a good weekend.  Also, please make sure you have a water bottle to use before and after events, and have with you throughout the weekend.

You should have all your skis glide waxed and ready for Friday afternoon and Saturday morning before we meet on Friday.  We will help you clean and wax your skis for the remaining races.  I will send out an email with recommendations for wax on Thursday morning before the weekend.  Please make sure all your skis are well marked with your full name.  Make sure classic kick zones are clearly marked and the kick zone cleaned.  If you have a pair of warm up skis, please bring these, but you must also be ready to warm up on foot if the course is closed before the race (this sometimes happens).

If you have any questions about this trip please contact me.  I will make use of your email addresses from the online sign-up with updates as the weekend comes closer.

Keep up the great skiing.  We can't wait to see you in March!
