The 2025 WMC Nordic Championships began today with the classical competition at Stark's Hill in Fryeburg. In the boys race, Tait Harvey of Greely took the gold with a winning time of 14:00.2. In second place was Owen Dawson of Freeport with a time of 14:26.9. In third place was Alexander Gordon of Yarmouth with a time of 15:19.3. In the girls race, Rowan Barry of Greely took the gold with a winning time of 17:07.9. Leah Kramer of Waynflete was second with a time of 17:40.8. Isa Waterman of Gray New Gloucester was third with a time of 17:48.4. The Yarmouth boys and the Freeport girls take the lead after day 1. The 2025 Aroostook Nordic Championships got underway today with the classical competition in Caribou. In the boys race, Alden Reardon of Fort Kent took the gold with a winning time of 15:22.7. Fletcher Marquis of Fort Kent took the silver with a time of 16:15.0. Quinn Michaud also of Fort Kent took the bronze with a time of 16:38.0. In the girls race, Rowan Tanguay of Fort Kent won the gold with a winning time of 19:33.3. Cassidy Carlisle of Presque Isle was second with a time of 21:02.5. Taylor York of Presque Isle was third with a time of 21:21.1. The Aroostook Nordic Championships conclude on Thursday with the freestyle pursuit in Fort Kent. RESULTS
Edward Little High School's Ellie Porter captured the gold in the women's 2025 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Giant Slalom Championship at Black Mountain of Maine in Rumford. Porter had runs of 1:00.83 and 58.95 for a two-run total of 1:59.78 to capture the title. Taking the silver was Hailey Marquis of Camden Hills with times of 1:02.99 and 1:01.31 for a total time of 2:04.30. Winning the bronze was Sophie Simard of Leavitt HS, who had times of 1:01.80 and 1:03.52 for a 2:05.32 total. In the men's Giant Slalom Landon Marquis of Camden Hills took the gold with runs of 59.27 and 56.19 for a winning total of 1:55.46. The silver went to Kaden Salsbury of Skowhegan HS with times of 59.41 and 57.03 and the two-run total of 1:56.44. Taking the final podium position was Carter Hill of Edward Little HS. Hill had times of 58.83 and 57.82 and a total of 1:56.65. The Edward Little boys and the Camden Hills girls take the lead after day 1. Great Caribou Bog Race postponed ; It is with regret that the race organizers for this event have had to postpone the race to February 8th, due to lack of snow. We need a minimum of 4 more inches to make the race terrain feasible for classic racing, and only 1-2” is expected this week. We realize most teams will have conference racing that day. We are obviously disappointed in the lack of cooperation by mother nature. We hope to invite other teams again next year. Thanks for your interest

Clara White of OronoThe Sassi Memorial 5K Freestyle race was held today at Black Mtn in Rumford. It was changed to a freestyle race due to snow conditions that were fast under sunny skies. It was held on Black Mtn's traditional 5K course with High School Hill. In the boys race, Lucas Barstow of Gould Academy won the race with a time of 12:08.2. He was the first one to start and set a blistering time that was not beaten. In second place was Alden Reardon of Fort Kent (12:31.8). In third place was Beckett Cote of Messalonskee (12:37.9). In the girls race, Clara White of Orono won the race with a time of 14:20.5. She cruised past racers with great uphill technique. In second place was Kate Carlson of Gould Academy (14:34.9). In third place was Nora McCourt of Mt. Blue (14:50.3. The Sassi race also served as the Maine Nordic team qualifier with the top 20 skiers qualifying for the Maine U16 AND EHSC Nordic teams.
