We will now spotlight senior Lucy Huggett of Freeport. She is the 2026 Class A classical state champion, the freestyle state champion,
and the pursuit state champion. She also won the WMC freestyle title. We asked her about her successes and her favorite things about Nordic skiing.
1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
To prepare well for the state meet I spent a lot of time doing easy skiing and making sure my body was ready for the race.

While the state meet is a stressful and an important event I reminded myself of how far me and my team have come and no matter what happened, I would remain happy with my efforts and enjoy my last ever Nordic race with my team.

At the start I was focused on staying calm and reminding myself of the work I have done to get myself here.

I contribute my success to my amazing coaches who have pushed me hard and supported me for the last 4 years, and to my teammates who have worked tirelessly for this sport but who have also made it so fun and enjoyable!!

Next year I will be attending Colby college to continue running track and cross country which I am extremely excited for.
6) What surprised you the most about this season?
6) What surprised you the most about this season?
I was happily surprised by all the snow we got this year which meant lots of awesome practices at Pineland!
7) What moment/event will you remember the most from the season?
7) What moment/event will you remember the most from the season?
I will remember states as a whole the most, the amazing energy at the races, winning my first individual title, celebrating another win for the team and just all of the fun memories spent with my team throughout the trip!
8) What do you like most about Nordic Skiing?
I love the feeling of pushing myself to my limits on skis and also the supportive but also hard core Nordic community that I have always loved being a part of.
