Our next state champion spotlight is Andrew Christie of Falmouth.  He won the 2022 MPA Class A Giant Slalom and Slalom.  We asked him about his successful seasonB4CD7449 AA8C 42EB 9A0B 0CDB2EB192BA and his best memories from the season.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
Just making sure I had all my ski gear and that I got enough sleep. I knew that if I came ready to race, then I could do well, so I just tried to put myself in the best spot possible.
2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I’m not really sure, I didn’t feel too much pressure. I just treated it like a normal race and tried to have as much fun as possible.
3) What was going through your mind at the start knowing that the snow conditions were challenging?
I tried not to overthink about it, but I just kind of kept in the back of my mind that the snow would be a factor and I had to adjust my skiing accordingly. For the GS, the snow was a little soft, so I had to be more subtle on and off my edges, whereas for the slalom I could afford to be more aggressive on the edge and take a little more risk.

4) What are some of your best memories from ski racing this past season?

States was pretty fun, our team stayed in an Airbnb and we all played poker and other card games when we weren’t skiing. Just hanging out with my team in general was super fun.

5) If you are a senior, what are your plans for next year?
College (I hope)
6) What were your goals for this season and did you achieve them? What led to all of your success?
Going into the season my goal was definitely to win states so I was pretty happy when I did. I guess practice helped me, I have been skiing for a while so I’ve accumulated a lot of snow time, so that can only help me. Also, having fun while skiing helped me win, because then there is no pressure and I can just enjoy ski racing.
7) Anything else that you would like to add?
It’s been fun.
