We now will spotlight the state champions from the Nordic state championships in both classical and freestyle.  We begin with Ruth White of Orono who won theRWhiteOrono 1 MPA Class C Classical, Freestyle, and Pursuit at Black Mtn.  We asked her about her state meet preparations and her best memories from the season.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
I tried to get on snow as much as possible.  I also tried to focus on improving my speed and technique.

2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I tried to focus on enjoying the experience of the state meet with my team, instead of thinking too much about pressure and nerves.

3) What was going through your mind at the start knowing that the snow conditions were challenging?
I was just getting ready to race hard, knowing that everyone had the same snow conditions.  Despite the weather, the snow conditions were impressively good both days, thank you to Black Mountain's grooming crew.

4) What are some of your best memories from ski racing this past season?
Some of the best memories that I have from this season are of the kindness and support of the ski community.  The cheering and encouragement from every team and everyone is incredible.  I really enjoyed meeting other athletes.  I also enjoyed having the opportunity to compete on different courses and with skiers from around the state.

5) What were your goals for this season and did you achieve them?  What led to all of your success?
I did not have any specific goals this season, other than to try to do my best in each race.  My team, coaches, and the other skiers all encouraged me and, in many other ways, helped me to ski well.

6) Anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you to Black Mountain for hosting a good course and state meet, despite challenging weather.  Thank you to everyone in the ski community for always being so kind.
