We will now interview senior Landon Marquis of Camden Hills in our state champion spotlight series.  He was the 2025 Class A giantgsA Boy slalom state champion.  He was also the KVAC slalom and giant slalom winner.  We asked him about his plans for next year and he shared a special moment from the season:

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
I trained as much as I was able to with my high school ski team although, it wasn’t as much as I am used to I'm sure it still helped.

2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I just kept telling myself it was a training run which took out the stress but I still treated it as a competition without the additional stress.

3) What was going through your mind at the start?
I was telling myself that it was just a training run so I should push but not stress myself out over it. In the gate I find myself focusing on what I need to do to improve my run and then carry it onto the course.

4)  What do you contribute your success to?
I contribute my past training at Franconia Ski Club (FSC), to my parents who gave me the option to ski race years ago, and the countless hours of travel to have great training experiences to my overall success.

5)  What are your goals/plans for next year?
My goal by next year is to begin working towards my aviation career. I will be attending Rocky Mountain College (RMC) in Billings MT, and plan to study Aeronautical Science eventually becoming a commercial pilot. I am excited to continue ski racing for RMC which I received an academic and athletic scholarship.

6) What surprised you the most about this season?
I was surprised how the little amount of training affected my ski performance and how prepared my body was for the course throughout the season. I was surprised to take 10th place for SL and GS at the Eastern High School Championships.

7) What moment/event will you remember the most from the season?
Standing on the podium with my friends from all the other ski teams my senior year.

8) What do you like most about Alpine Skiing?
I like how social it is, how random people will start talking to you at the start, next thing you know you're becoming good friends. I also enjoy the feeling when you lay a really good arc on a technical course.

9) Anything else that you would like to add?
This season I decided to become a U12 coach for the Franconia Ski Club instead of training with them. I made this choice to give back, for all the amazing coaching staff and experiences I obtained over the years with FSC. It allowed me to grow as a young adult and helped me to encourage the next group of young racers to have a love for this sport which can be so unforgiving.
