The 2025 Maine State High School Alpine Ski Team Selection will occur at the selection races (commonly referred to as The Shootout) on Thursday, Feb. 20th at Black Mtn.  Race day details will be forthcoming as we get closer to that event.  To qualify for The Shootout, an athlete must meet one of the two following criteria:  2025 SHOOTOUT GUIDELINES

  1. If an athlete finishes in the top ten of either event, Slalom or Giant Slalom, at their respective conference championships, they qualify to compete at The Shootout.  Note, barring any unforseen weather delays, all five conference championships are slated to be held on or by Feb. 12th.
  2. If an athlete was a member of the Maine State High School Alpine Ski Team last year, 2024, they automatically qualify for participation in this year’s Shootout.  If this is the only qualification method met by an athlete, they will be seeded at the run of the run order for The Shootout.

**NOTE:

The Shootout run orders will be determined with the following protocol for each gender:

Slalom winners

Giant Slalom winners

Slalom runners-up

Giant Slalom runners-up

Slalom third place finishers

Giant Slalom third place finishers and so on…

The conference or seed order was drawn out of a hat by long time, now retired, head State Team Coach, Mark Cyr with the following result:

KVAC, SMAA, Aroostook, MVC, WMC

So, first seed would be the five slalom winners in that order of conference winners and so on.

**NOTE:

The state team will consist of TEN (Not 12 that have been selected the past few years….this is a return to the original 10 per the organizers of the Eastern High School Championships) girls and TEN boys based on their best Slalom run combined with their best Giant Slalom run at The Shootout (each athlete will get two runs of each at this event).  So, if a skier wins one run of

Slalom and their best Giant Slalom run is 5th, they have earned 6 place points.  The TEN athletes per gender with the lowest place points on the day make the team.
