State Champion Spotlight: Bryce Smith

We now spotlight Bryce Smith of Presque Isle who was the 2015 Class B Giant Slalom state champion.  We asked him about his favorte thing about ski racing and his season goals.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?

Training in the off-season in the weight room along with other dryland exercises and pushing my limits in practices and local meets being driven by both myself and my teammates.
2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
A lot of other racers get nervous before they compete, but I've been racing ever since I was a kid and have learned that being able to keep myself as calm as possible is important because skiing is just as much a mental sport as it is physical test.
3) What is your favorite thing about ski racing?
Simply, going fast. Ever since I first started skiing, I wanted to go fast and it's still a thrill to this day.
4) Coming into the season, what were your goals and did you achieve them?
One of my goals was to ski well at the state meet and I think I accomplished this goal.  I also had set another goal for myself to qualify for the Maine team after shootout but I did not ski as well as I know I could have that day, but it's all a part of ski racing and there's always next year.
