COVID Guidelines for Alpine, Nordic Seasons

The Maine Principal's Association released the COVID-19 season guidelines for winter sports.  The School Sports Guidance: Return to Competition for Competitive Activities in Maine for winter sports has been updated and approved by the MPA Interscholastic Management Committee.  Here are the highlights:

-December 7th is the first practice for skill-building drills or conditioning.

-December 14th: Team-based practice with physically distanced group activities

-January 11th: Competition between teams from the same geographic area

-Participants in school sports – All athletes, coaches, officials, staff -- must wear face coverings during practices and competition

- In Alpine skiing, spectators are allowed in accordance with the state’s mass gathering guidelines. The finish zone should be widened to promote physical distancing

-In Nordic skiing, mass starts have been eliminated and interval starts are encouraged. If using a wave start, no more than five skiers are allowed. The finish zone should be widened and fans will be allowed.
