Headline summary of the results from yesterday's Pakulski Slalom held at the Kents Hill Slope: Rosie St. Cyr from Freeport produced two winning runs to take the combined victory with a time of 1:06.94, over Breezy Quimby from Rangeley (1:07.94) and Jaden Boulanger from Mt. Valley (1:09.73). Adam Ellis and Thatcher Riley, both of Maranacook held a scintillating duel with Adam (1:01.08) edging out Thatcher (1:01.10) by 0.02 seconds for his maiden win of the season. Rounding out a Maranacook podium was Tristin Riley in 3rd (1:02.84). Mtn Valley edged Mt. Blue in the girls team competition with 749 points to 744. Maranacook took the boys team title with 781 points to Skowhegan's 765.
The 2024 MPA Ski State Meets are coming up. The Class A Alpine State Meet is February 14-15 at Pleasant Mtn. The Class B Alpine State Meet is February 14-15 at Black Mtn. The Class A, B, C Nordic State Meet is February 19-20 at Titcomb Mtn. The MPA STATE MEET INFO PAGE is being updated frequently with important information. The 2024 Sassi Memoral 5K classic race was held today at Black Mtn in Rumford. The girls race had variable snow conditions that became more consistent for the boys race. In the girls race, Nora McCourt of Mt Blue was the Sassi winner with a time of 17:34.5. Nyla Scott of Gould Academy was second with a time of 17:42.6. Ruth White of Orono was third with a time of 17:55.5. In the boys race, Becket Cote of Quarry Road was the Sassi winner with a time of 15:19.7. Ellis Slover of Gould Academy was second with a time of 15:32.3. Teo Steverlynck-Horne of Freeport was third with a time of 15:32.8. In the afternoon was also the Maine Nordic U16 and EHSC team pursuit qualifier. The skiers who finished in the top 18 will receive an email with the Google form to confirm their spot on the team. After the state meet, additional skiers could be named as alternates from the pursuit.Love to race Nordic? Interested in skiing in college in an exciting varsity program? UMF races in NENSA Eastern Cups, the Bates and Colby Carnivals as well as the USCSA series in New England and New York. USCSA races have a friendly vibe and are a lot of fun. Last year Nationals were at Mammoth Mountain in California and it was an EPIC experience! Freshman Ayla Bodach-Turner was 2nd in the FS Sprint and 8th in the 15km FS. This year Nationals are at Lake Placid and next year they will be out west.
We’re looking for athletes who enjoy skiing, working together as a team and having fun. It’s open to all levels of experience. UMF is always rated in the top ten by US News and World Reports for academic excellence as well as value. Small class sizes allow you to stand out and allowed a Senior last year to earn a full scholarship at UConn in Microbiology. We train at Quarry Road, Titcomb and the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.

The first qualification race for the 2024 Maine U16 and EHSC Nordic Teams is being held on Saturday, January 27th in conjunction with the Sassi Memorial at Black Mtn. Skiers who wish to qualify for the Maine Nordic teams must compete in the Sassi 5K classical and the 2.5K freestyle pursuit. Entry fee for the pursuit qualifier is $10 and entry fee for the Sassi is $13. Racers must register for the Sassi (check with your coach about this) AND REGISTER FOR THE PURSUIT. Deadline for the pursuit registration is Friday at 8pm. QUALIFIER PURSUIT REGISTRATION | SASSI RACE/ENTRY INFO | MAINE NORDIC TEAM QUALIFIER PURSUIT INFO The top 18 finishers in the pursuit will qualify for the Maine Nordic team. The additional 6 qualifiers will come from the Aroostook Nordic Champs and from the state meet pursuit. Qualifiers from the pursuit will need to fill out an online form (which will be posted after the Sassi) to confirm their spot on the team.
