Sean Maguire-State Champion Spotlight

In the start gate I was just thinking about the course and some of the tricky spots. I knew what I had to do. But when I’m in the start I try to not think of what the end result will be. If I throw down a good run, then I know that my time will hold up. I had a good bib number so the course was fairly fresh when I went down. So the conditions were not a big factor in my preparation.
4) You won both slalom and giant slalom, what makes you so good and what do you contribute your success to?
I ski every weekend in the winter, for a very competitive ski team with some amazing coaches. Being on snow so much definitely helps me tone my skills and become a much better ski racer.
5) As a sophomore, what are your goals for next year?
My goals for next year won’t be very different from this season. I will try to do my best at every race, become a better and faster skier. And hopefully win both Gs and Sl again at states.
6) What surprised you the most about this season?
I was very surprised this season with wining both the Gs and the Sl at states. I knew I had a chance at winning the Gs Becuase Gs has always been my stronger event. But winning the Sl really caught me by surprise. I was also surprised when I was the first boy qualified into the Maine state team after getting a first in both the Gs and the Sl at the state shootouts.
7) What moment/event will you remember the most from this season?
This season I will definitely remember being at the eastern highschool championships at Attitash mountain. The environment is so great, your surrounded with so many other kids that are just like you and have a love for the sport just like you. Being able to spend 4 days with the Maine team is an amazing experience.
