UMF Nordic Coach Needed

Seeking Nominations/Applications/Inquiries of Interest:

The University of Maine at Farmington seeks a qualified candidate to coach its USCSA Nordic team. The team includes both men and women student-athletes. The average size of the team has been around 8-12 participants and has growth potential and aspirations.

Time requirements for the position include necessary meetings from mid-September through early December, with program administration/team to coordinate dryland training. Cross country running is anticipated as part of the training. If snow is available, weekend training in December is desired. The Nordic team returns to campus the second week of January for a two-week training camp prior to the beginning of the season. These sessions are typically two-three hours in duration.

The competitive season is from mid-January through the second week of March. Coaching is at Titcomb Mt. two to three times a week, and at weekend race events. These competitions may be one to two days depending upon the schedule/location. Schedule includes travel to ECSC events in Vermont on two or three weekends during this period; other events are single-day events that are typically at Titcomb or approximately one hour from campus. In mid-to late February, there is a Regional weekend competition in Vermont where participants may qualify for Nationals. Nationals occur during the second week of March and are a week-long event that generally alternates between east or west areas of the United States. The 2018 championships will be in the East. Our season is complete when Nationals are over.

The ability to train and guide student-athletes to reach their potential and perform their best under variable conditions is desired. Professionalism at all times is a must. A clean driving record and ability to drive a University vehicle (typically a van) is needed. Availability for all race-day events, traveling with the team, assisting with equipment preparation and event execution, and communicating with the athletics department to maintain NCAA regulations of the athletic and academic requirements for the athletes are some of the responsibilities for the position. Participation in recruitment activities is also desired and would be done collaboratively with program administration. An earned Bachelor’s degree, and coaching/collegiate experience is preferred, but not required.

The position is open now and will remain open until filled. Interested parties should direct inquiries to Scott Hoisington at This email address is being protected from spambots.
