Abbie Tyler-State Champion Spotight

We next spotlight senior Abbie Tyler of John Bapst.  She was the 2019 Class B Slalom state champion.  We asked her about her thoughts at the TYLER ABBIE class b slalom john bapst 1starting gate and her plans for next year.

1) What were your preparations leading up to the state meet?
I trained with my team and watched video.
 2) How did you deal with the pressure and emotions that come along with competing in a state meet?
I’ve been ski racing a really long time, so I’ve learned how to deal with my nerves and I just wanted to have fun at states while also skiing to the best of my ability.
 3) What was going through your mind at the starting gate in the pursuit knowing that you could win?
I knew I just had to ski how I had been skiing all season and wanted to have an aggressive, clean run that I would feel good about.
4) You won the slalom what do you contribute your success to?
I’ve had a lot of great coaches throughout my skiing career that have really pushed me and shaped my skiing today. Along with support from coaches, I was really determined all season to win states and I think my passion and drive helped me reach that goal.
5) As a senior, what are your goals for next year?
I haven’t committed to a college yet, however, I plan on studying something related to medicine.
6) What surprised you the most about this season?
I usually struggle with gs, but this year I felt more comfortable on my gs skis and really started to enjoy it by the end of the season.
7) What moment/event will you remember the most from this season?
Easterns was definitely a highlight of my season. It was a really fun time with great people.
8) Is there anything else that you would like to add?
I’ve had an unforgettable 4 years of high school ski racing and I’m so grateful I got to be a part of this community.
9) What do you like most about Alpine skiing?
Skiing has always been a part of me and once I started racing I fell in love with the sport for the thrill it gave me and the friendships it brought along.
